I keep forgetting to write a post on my Philly trip so here it is!
SundayWe left church at the end of the sermon to catch our flight at 1:00 and got there just as soon as they were boarding. I lost my ring going through security ): Then we sat on the plane and planned our transportation to the hotel (which is in center city). We realized that we would have to take a train that had a station 2 blocks away and walk the rest of the way to the hotel. However, we realized that there was a roadblock when we got off. Because of construction, the train doesn't run on weekends so the next hour was spent figuring out what to do, walking around panicking, and then realizing that we could take a bus to another train stop and board the train there. We chose the third option and got on the train which was pretty costly but worth it. I've never been on a train before so it was a good first experience [: It seemed to go pretty slowly though...maybe it's just my perception. Anyways, we arrived in the hotel which was very very nice and felt all grown-up checking in on our own. Then we called Andie to see if she wanted to meet up. All three of us went to visit Chinatown which was pretty close to the hotel (20 min walking distance) and got baked goods and ate good food. Then we walked back to center city and spent the rest of the night shopping and talking.
MondayMonday was the day of our Penn Preview program. Cindy and I were scared to use the subway and left at 6:30 to figure it out...sadly we didn't know that it would only take 10 minutes to get there...that's an hour of sleep I won't be getting back :p We toured the campus by ourselves in the morning until 8:30 when preview started. First we had breakfast at their auditorium building and realized that everyone was there with their parents. We felt really awkward...but then the program started and the Dean came to talk about Penn and why the regular decision kids should pick Penn. Then, we walked to a building next to the auditorium and asked a panel of students "real" questions about Penn like...how likely we are to get mugged or what's there to do in Philly. After this, we broke off into smaller groups of 10 to spend another hour asking one student questions. It was funny because out of the 10 people, 4 were from Pittsburgh :p Cindy, me, and two guys from Sewickley. After that we went to our own programs and I left with the Wharton people. I met some cool people and a potential roommate? Although I'm having problems finding her on facebook D: So we'll see...we had lunch with our departments and then walked around to see the different dorms on campus. Then I decided to skip the last part which was more lectures by penn professors (I figure I'll get more than enough of those in the next 4 years). SO I stopped by the bookshop and Cindy came with her new engineering friends and I would just like to say...I'm slightly jealous because they're so much more fun and nicer than wharton people ): But it's okay! I'll make friends with the engineers too. Anyways, we then went back to the hotel and shopped around some more with Andie.
TuesdayWe woke up really early today to go to Chinatown to buy some baked goods for the parents. There were like...twelve different bakeries! INSANE. And then we stalked some chinatown kids at their bus stop.
THE END [:
